About SAINT BOTOLPH

Our Origin and Mission

The Oyster Bag was born of the frustration of years of using inadequate handbags--and a fateful encounter with a black pen. It was 2018 and our founder had been feeling a bit nostalgic for the Bermuda Bag of the '80's with its button-up and go esprit. When she got black ink on the front of her brand-new bag, she thought, "Why can't I change the cover on this thing?!"

Light bulb moment!

She simply wanted a bag that did all she thought a handbag should do--one that was up to the task of the daily hustle and which could transform to suit one's mood. Three years of R&D and several patent applications later, we finally have The Saint Botolph Oyster Bag: THE ULTIMATE BAG.

Sustainably produced in New York City our Oyster Bags have a smaller carbon footprint than overseas manufacturing and employ workers who are protected by New York State and U.S. labor laws. We offset our carbon use and donate 20 percent of profits to a rotating group of charities.

Our pledge to you: This bag will change your life and the planet for the better.

Oh, and why the name? Saint Botolph is the patron saint of Boston (Boston means "Botolph's Town") where the founder's family has lived for a long time (Both in the UK and Massachusetts - that's a story for another time.) Saint Botolph is also the patron saint of boundaries and by extension travel -- perfect for all our pockets that you need on-the-go!

A Machine for Living, not just a Fashion Accessory

No more frustrating, inadequate, single-pocket handbags. The Pearl Organizer has 18 internal pockets and a bottle sleeve to keep all your things handy--even two pairs of glasses cradled in protective Ultrasuede. Four color-coded tethers mean no more time wasted hunting for your keys, work I.D. or anything else. Pop the Pearl into a new Shell and change your look in a flash. Banish from your life the frustration of leaving important things behind when you change your bag! Change the straps too--this bag does it all!

About our Founder & CEO

Born in Los Angeles, California, our founder is an artist, writer, designer, and entrepreneur with two Ivy League degrees in Art History. Much more importantly, she is an experienced handbag user. Busy, always on-the-go, and a travel fanatic, she yearned for a truly proficient bag that could help her accomplish all her goals.

She long struggled with messy handbags that made it difficult to find what she needed and thus wasted time. Searching for her phone, lip gloss, pen, nail file, and worst of all keys, became a constant source of frustration. She knew that the lack of pockets (and organization) in most bags was a problem for many.

Determined to create a solution, she invented the Oyster Bag. This innovative design features multiple pockets and compartments and a changeable cover and straps, so you never have to change your bag again. Liberate yourself from the tyranny of the one-pocket bag! The Oyster Bag is more than just a luxury accessory - it's a manifesto that empowers people to be more organized and efficient in their daily lives. The Spat was her next invention – a smaller version of the Oyster Bag. The Spat is replete with pockets for all your wallet essentials to be at the ready including a special pocket for your phone and your keys on a tether.

Based in New York, Olivia lives with her husband and two young children. As a mother and entrepreneur, she understands the importance of having a handbag that is both beautiful and functional. We strive to make the best bags possible and work with you in mind.  We hope that our handbags will become your go-to accessory for all your adventures, whether you're running errands or traveling the world.

Thank you for supporting our small, women-owned and operated company.
